Found Project Outcome:
Reflection of my feedback:
In this feedback, I’ll be analysing and examining ways I could improve my first assignment. This is the overall feedback I received for my work. "You have included each section of the Project Proposal as outlined in the assessment task information with relevant visuals. You have shown a deep interest in the “uncanny” and explore a range of practical works relevant to your research and chosen themes. This mature approach has helped you form interesting story lines and scripts for your final major project. Your experimental clay animations work shows a lot of potential. What other materials could you explore using next term?"
During the next term, I am going to continue working on that project. I will go deeper with the research. It is more probable I will try to find more relevant artworks for inspiration. I am stuck on the storyline, so the advice of adding other materials seems interesting. I am thinking about using felt to create clothes for a jester (I mean, the higher part of the blouse). I am still interested in making only craft paper background, but I thought that I should do one scene with a furnished environment (that could be like a DIY doll room miniature, but not sure yet).
What I need to improve:
1) Your Project Proposal has vastly improved since your first draft, however, it is important to proof read your work for spelling, grammar and formatting errors. Use Harvard APA referencing style for your next written assignment.
I am fully agreed that my writing skills have to be improved. I have installed Grammarly on my computer, so I will be checking my spelling and grammar every time I wrote something. I have already learnt how to reference in Visual Culture class, I can use it in my further assignments.
2) To help with your written communication on your Project blog, see the guidance on what makes a successful blog here. It is essential that you practise using P.E.E (point, evidence, explain) to structure your blog posts.
I must continue working on my blog structure. I am starting with this post ;)
3) It is important, as an Animator, to practise your observational drawing skills, particularly in life drawing. Designate at least 1.5 hours per week to draw figures from direct observation, including moving figures. Giving your self a time limit can help to form more interesting and peculiar outcomes.
I have already started drawing regularly. I noticed a significant improvement in my drawing skills.
Reviewing my previous blog posts from week 1-10, I checked them for grammar and spelling. Through the use of Grammarly, I corrected all my writing in every blog post.
Materials and equipment list:
clay
craft paper
green felt
camera (telephone)
trod
clay tools
laptop for editing
light
I stopped on my previous secondary research. About week 7 I found an artist whose name is Colin Raff. These mood boards mostly contain his art pieces. He floats the idea of uncanny, surreal, and freaky. He usually works with collages and creates cut-out animations. Colin Raff posts his art on Instagram unnamed. The artist always explores the theme of strange facial expressions.
He deforms the face, modifying it. What is more, he uses old rare photos for his collages, which makes them spellbinding. From my point of view, Colin Raff tries to express the idea of metamorphosis.
Reflection:
I want to create a feeling of melancholy, overthinking and darkness. I see my character as changeable depending on the things happening around him. He reacts to everything, his shape reflects occurring events. He is open to the world, but it makes him unstable, it makes him just a reflective object. His task is to reflect on the world, but he also has feelings. By the way, he feels deeply. Through painful experiences, he discovers the world. I want to convey the feeling of anxiety and loss. The character is confused about himself, his life and his emotions.
I will raise the theme of psychotic breaks, mental health problems and acceptance of emotions.
I chose this theme because I feel related to the character. Working on this project, I am expressing my own feelings. It is a kind of art therapy. What is more, in the hardest emotional periods I felt so alone and thought that what happens to me it is not normal. Therefore, I did not use to open up to others. Through my animation, I intend to convey the idea of how it is important to accept the feelings and experiences you are going through.
Since the past term, my project has been developed. He changed from a more abstract theme to a more specific one.
I am going to delve deeper into the metaphorical and symbolical meaning of jester. As well, I need to research mental health problems and psychological crises.
I am hoping to find an answer to self-sabotage, coping with emotions and inner relief.
