Original WIP Presenation:
Feedback:
Reflection:
Strengths: My character design and experimentations related to my research were commended.
Areas to improve: Audio and formulation were not clear, my peers could not understand my ideas. I need to write down a new script and record my speech again. As well, I need to try more animation techniques.
That was an extremely interesting experience. However, I felt insecure about my presentation, I enjoyed sharing our projects and giving feedback. Before that, I felt a lack of teamwork and communication with peers related to creative work. I consider that sharing an opinion among the collective of artists is highly important. This increases the level of awareness of the strength and weaknesses and helps to look at your work at the different angel. Another point of view challenges and expands the understanding of your own project. Therefore, you know, where you have to focus on more and improve certain segments in your project and where your work was appreciated, so you can realise whether your ideas were understood or not.
That was completely new to me to share my art project under development with other artists, who have to look critically at my work and say their opinion about it. I found the recording of my presentation boring and felt a lack of motivation. Even though recording your voice seems easier than speaking in front of an audience, I think that would be much more successful and exciting because live performance is more useful for these kinds of purposes.
Obviously, for the next time, I should not put off a hefty draft to make it better quality.

Plan:
new script + add new experiments to the presentation
I need to add to my blog my new project experimentations I have done
more sculpturing and DIY decorations for the stop-motion, as well as clothes for the jester
focus on refining my ideas more, bring them to a final development
Script:
Hi, everyone, I want to present you my major project. It is based on the idea of the jester with formal elements such as deformed figures and shapes. Art movements I feel related to are Art-house and surrealism. Style and aesthetics: uncanny, grotesque forms, rustic, decay and darkness.
I want to create a feeling of melancholy, overthinking and darkness. I see my character as changeable depending on the things happening around him. He reacts to everything. He is open to the world, but it makes him unstable, it makes him just a reflective object. His task is to reflect on the world, but he also has feelings. By the way, he feels deeply. Through painful experiences, he discovers the world.
As well, I intend to convey the feeling of anxiety and loss. The character is confused about himself, his life and his emotions.
I will raise the theme of psychotic breaks, mental health problems and acceptance of emotions.
Linking my theme, I can use keywords such as mystery, transformation, recklessness and overthinking.
By that time, I have come up with uncanny stop-motion clay animation, which is going to be a music clip with the jester as a main character. On the one side, this characteristic has a more positive meaning, but, on the other side, he constitutes just as a reflective object, ignoring his own personality. He feels deeply and it is a gift and a curse at the same time. Linking my theme, I can use keywords such as mystery, transformation, recklessness and overthinking.
For project development, I decided to work with soft materials including pastel, charcoal and soft pencils. It has established a mysterious atmosphere and emphasised the rustic texture I want to achieve. All the pictures above influenced my sketches. I tried to replicate the twisted forms and devilish shapes from them. Creating sketches, I tried to focus on the texture of clay and pattern of old paper, faded colours.
I found the topic of the symbolic meaning of a deck of cards interesting, which expanded the philosophical side of this project. The decks are metaphors for transformation, different periods of life and phases of development. I will reflect these ideas through the physical changes of jester’s forms. ---this sub-theme is going to be added to my project. I want to arise philosophical ideas in my animation as well.
Four animators Yan Shvankmajer, Colin Raff and The Brothers Quay resonate with the perception of how I see my own project and the emotions I want to convey. They are uncanny and freaky. Yan Shvankmajer prefers clay and plays dough in his projects, Colin Raff uses a lot of old photos and The Brothers Quay creates interesting strange concepts. Moreover, Yan Schwankmajer, I think, is the artist who influenced my art massively.
Focusing on Sustainability, I want to claim that Clay is Alternative eco-friendly material. The same as the stop-motion technique, it is cost-effective and does not require a lot of expensive equipment. As much as I am trying to raise the issue of mental health and well being, this topic as well relates to sustainability.
Let us get to the design ideas.
I focused on emotions. I drew some sketches of Jesters. They turned out extremely uncanny and full of complicated expressions. After that I used Photoshop and worked on the deformation of my drown Jesters. I will definitely use these successful experimentations in my character design and I will try to shape them out of clay to use it in my stop-motion as a puppet.
The next idea is to use Chromakey on the clothes /costume of the Jester to translate interesting images on it. It will emphasise the weirdness and feeling of emotional breakdown.
And the last Idea. As well, I worked on some storyboards ideas, which still have to be improved. However, I drew some sketches to illustrate how I am going to articulate my character, which is going to be sculptured of clay.
My character is under his mind control. He tries to realise his body, which is disconnected. I will show these ideas as the Jester's arms randomly move and play without his control. Therefore, he is lost and confused.
He wakes up every day and has to solve the same old problem. He goes to bed every day and asks himself the same questions. He cannot accept his emotions which is why he struggles. He is broken. This Idea I will reflect on by smashing dried clay figure of him.
