The mind map we did in the class with my mates.
Working in a group was entertaining. We were combining everyone's thoughts and developed our ideas. We tried to link our ideas with cultural representation. That also could be a great base for pathway projects. It can be used as a reference for background for animation or film scenes. The photo made us come up with a lot of associations such as skaters, millennials, the 90s, marginals, dirtiness, loneliness and unsafely. We consider that the image gives a sense of trouble teenager who tries to find his place in the world.
All of these ideas could be useful for any art project, especially for our pathway. What is more, it is an everlasting timely problem: finding a home, leaving a footprint, revolution, find like-minded.
Project Proposal
I want to create a feeling of melancholy, overthinking and darkness. I see my character as changeable depending on the things happening around him. He reacts to everything, his shape reflects occurring events. He is open to the world, but it makes him unstable, it makes him just a reflective object. His task is to reflect on the world, but he also has feelings. By the way, he feels deeply. Through painful experiences, he discovers the world.
For this project, I will develop my old stop-motion clay animation. I will use it as an idea, but I need to add meaning, create a concept, play with forms --- make it more complex.
Relying upon my previous research I am still interested in making horror animation, but now I would like to make it more uncanny than scary.
Developing ideas: I tried to find inspiration. Joker directly relates to playing cards, which in turn remind me of childhood. When I used to visit my grandparents on vocations (they live in a small city where most live retirees), I often noticed old people playing jumbo cards. I spent a lot of summers when I was little and loved to observe these scenes. Old men were making jokes, everyone laughed and could spend the whole day like this. They looked good-humouredly. At the same time, their moods took turns to calm and thoughtful, they started to talk about serious things and had deep conversations. The states flew from one into the other. They transferred the feeling of being alive, being at the moment. The cards are also a symbol of life. In the meantime, life is a game. I found cards multidimensional in meanings. On that point, I chose it as my found item, because they give me a huge space for creating a variety of ideas.
Another artists inspiration:
Two animators Colin Raff and David Firth resonate the perception of how I see my own project and emotions I want to convey.
